Just Because It Hurts, Doesn't Mean It Isn't God
Hello Everyone,
The title for the post might seem obvious, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who in life's darkest hour, wonders how this could be God's will. As my recent posts have stated, I've been dealing with some hard stuff this past year and a half, and I will admit I've asked "why" several times, but He is still good! I may not know all that He has instore for me, and all the reasons He is allowing me to go through all this, but I know one thing for sure...while I've been struggling He is working, and He has great plans for me!
As I talked about last post, spending time in His word more regularly has really helped get my perspective focused above and more on what He can do through me and not what is happening to me. It is through lives interruptions that we often take Him up on His invitation to seek Him the most. I still struggle with the why, especially this week as I ended up in the ER twice (once by ambulance), but I know that He hasn't left me and He isn't going to. If what I'm going through is only so I can come closer to Him than this time wasn't wasted, but that is not what I think He has planned here. I hope that what He's been speaking to me through all this can be used to encourage others and point them to the One who holds yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Today I listened to my church's sermon from last week, and my pastor said something that really spoke to me, "Don't minimize God's presence to the level of your understanding." How often do we do this?...whether intentional or not...I know I have. It makes sense to try to put Him in certain categories, or boxes so that we can grasp who He is better, but that is not how it is supposed to be. He is AWESOME beyond our understanding (Job 36:26) and so much more complex than we can comprehend (Isaiah 55:8-9). What we do, day in and day out helps determine what path we will lead, but ultimately no matter how many mistakes we make along the way He will turn it all around for His purpose. I'm not saying living a life of obvious sin is God's will for your life because He can work it out for His divine plan, because that is just the opposite of what He wants. However, I'm saying that as humans, we will fail and when we stray He can still bring us back and work out everything for His purpose. A good example of this, is when Joseph was sold as a slave by his brothers, yet then in turn, helped save their lives and many others. (Genesis 37-50) There are so many examples in the Bible of this, and if you think of your life, or look at the lives of those around you, you will see even more. He wasn't just turning around the lives of those in HIStory, He still is, and He will continue to do so as long as there are people on this earth.
While I may not know what you are going through, I do know this, whatever it is God will work out according to His divine purpose for you life. (Ephesians 1:11; Romans 8:28+29) We get more out of our struggles when our focus is on Him and what He is trying to teach us. However, even when we have our doubts He is still God and He is still good. I challenge you that whatever it is you may be going through at this very moment, to focus on the GOOD and try to find the GOD in it. We will see His fingerprints on our situations if we just open up our hearts and eyes to see it...what we look for we will find. It can be harder during certain situations, as we are humans and our emotions often make our heavenly vision blurry, but it is still possible. I've gotten in the habit of asking Him to teach me what it is He is trying to teach me, and even if it is something I don't want to hear, that He help me be open to hearing it.
When we tell our stories, let it be to tell of Him and how He is working or has worked in our lives. Every good and perfect gift comes from above, and let us not forgot that when we are in a good place in life. (James 1:17) I'm not saying that you can't accept compliments on your hard work and achievements, but remember that it was because He gave us the strength and ability to do it all. Every breath and minute is borrowed, so let us not get to big for our britches and never forget the One who got us through our trials.
I hope that whatever is going on in your life today that you are choosing to run hard after Him and not let earthly happiness replace heavenly joy.
Until Next Time!
